Bleach Protetion Day
Bleach Protection Day occurs on February 25th and marks the day when Bleach fans around the internet rallied together to bring down a comic book creator who blatantly plagiarized from many Manga but none more so than our beloved Bleach and is a day for Bleach fans to show that they are not to be messed with.
History
It was on February 24th, 2010 that the great "Incarnate Incident" occurred. It was discovered by a crafty forum poster, superbot400, on the GameFAQs forum. The discovery was that the western manga-style comic series "Incarnate", created by Nick Simmons, not only copied character designs and dialogue from several mangas, but in some cases appeared to have copied entire panels and pages. Immediately after this discovery, Bleach fans went into a frenzy, reporting the news wherever they could all over Wikipedia, Deviantart, Bleach Asylum and eventually the hype found its way to Facebook where a group
demanding legal action be taken was created. It was at this point in time that the fans began to organize and sent notifications to Viz Media and the publishing company of Incarnate, Radical Comics, to inform them of this discrepancy. Fans even managed to reach Bleach creator, Tite Kubo, and inform him of the incident to which he responded on Twitter, "Actually, from last night til this morning, a huge number of foreign fans were saying "This American manga is ripping off Bleach!" or
something like that. Well, I looked at the site, but I can't really read English, but it's a manga made by Gene Simmon's son. " "Actually, whether it's plagiarism or ...not, I'm more worried about the fact that Gene Simmon's son is a mangaka."
As fans continued to rally, a statement was posted by Radical Comics on their MySpace page saying "We have halted further production and distribution of the Incarnate comic book and trade paperback until this matter is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties." This was the first major victory for the Bleach fans and good news continued to flow in as the story was picked up by the Bakersfield Anime Examiner and eventually the major news network, CNN. With the news breaking out all over the world of this great injustice, February 25th was officially declared a Bleach Fan Holiday known as "Bleach Protection Day" to commemorate the hard work and union of every bleach fan.
Affected Parties
Not all transgressions were found within the plagiarized material however these are the mangas/animes that fans were positively able to identify as being plagiarized.
